I can't imagine what may have possessed you to come to MikeytheKing.com - but here you are, and good on ya. I will do what I can to make it interesting, and I am not ruling out a periodic human sacrifice.

Several members of congress come to mind.

I am mike, mikey, or - if you have been introduced to me by my big sister, Michael, a name so high-hatted and adult that it was never appropriate and hopefully never will be. Although I am hesitant to reveal my age, I will admit that while looking at some old photos from my grade school I noted someone familiar standing behind me.

It was Moses.

Some of you may know me from the band Street Pajama, which was hot stuff a while ago but now serves only as a stony reminder that time marches on and many of our wild and libertine old friends are now sanctimonious pantloads. I was the guitarist* and primary songwriter, and although that is not a particularly big deal, it will figure prominently as this website unravels. The band, by the way, was especially popular during the eighties, a time of innocence during which Santa Claus was still allowed to smoke a pipe.

Others, certainly several family members, may know me from my new book - Blues & Grace - A Civil War Odyssey. (Note the cleverly concealed pun, which alludes to the fact that blue and gray uniforms were common, and that music - blues, to be specific - is an essential element of the book. I mention this because many of my dearest friends are a little slow on the draw.) Feel free to check out the link above and be amazed. If it is not one of the most uniquely compelling books about the Civil War you have ever read, I invite you to beat me about the ankles and shins with it.

Still others - and here I am referring to any number of my alter-personalities - will know me from my recent CD: Street Pajama Bottoms. This winsome title alludes to the fact that the music has many of the qualities of the Street Pajama era, but lacks the honey-sweet voice of Merle Harmon, who is currently working as a psychotherapist. It's the best thing I've ever done, except perhaps, for tying the knot with my Loralita. It is a CD of soft rock, reggae, and sophisticated folk - shot through a lens of blues and jazz.

I have included the lyrics to Street Pajama Bottoms here. If they are not the most uniquely compelling lyrics you have ever read, I invite you to insert them in a recently purchased copy of my book and beat me about the shins and ankles.

*It is incumbent upon me to confess that all of my guitar work is derivative of the great Django "Thrumming Stumps" Crowley. Django Crowley had no hands or feet and played a guitar with no strings or frets to the rhythmic magic of his own protruding tibias hammering the floor. I can only pray that I have captured some of his rare emotional voltage in my playing.
